Breathing God

From the moment we are born, before we speak a word, we breathe. Breath is life’s first evidence. What we did not realize is that each inhale and exhale is already prayer. The ancient Jewish rabbis observed that the very Name of God — YHWH (Yahweh) — is structured like the sound of breath. Inhaling forms the “Yah,” and exhaling the “Weh.”

This means that every living soul, knowingly or unknowingly, is whispering God’s Name. The atheist, the believer, the infant, and the dying—all breathe His Name with every breath. As Psalm 150:6 declares, “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.”
